Ecologist / Spatial Ecologist

Jamie is Capital Ecology’s Spatial Ecologist with two years’ experience in ecological consultancy and an additional three years working as a Conservation Officer for the ACT Government. Jamie is proficient in identifying native and exotic flora and fauna species of the ACT and Southern Tablelands of NSW.

As a spatial ecologist, Jamie is skilled in utilising advanced geospatial analysis techniques to accurately map vegetation communities, assess threatened species habitats, and record threatened species. Jamie is passionate about improving systems using accurate spatial data collection and takes pride in integrating spatial apps such as field maps into ecological field operations to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Jamie has a demonstrated ability to undertake and lead ecological field surveys, including vegetation mapping of plant community types, ongoing monitoring of Snowy 2.0 threatened and invasive species, herbage mass grass assessments in the ACT, general woodland bird surveys, and targeted threatened bird surveys.

Jamie is a passionate birdwatcher and has gained an in-depth understanding of birds through this activity, which has taken him all over Australia. Through multiple government and consulting roles, Jamie has performed general bird surveys and targeted threatened bird surveys for species such as Glossy Black-Cockatoos, Superb Parrots, Malleefowl, Gang-gang Cockatoos, and Pink Robins.

Jamie has contributed to multiple consultant reports, including Biodiversity Development Assessment Reports (BDAR), Biodiversity Stewardship Site Assessment Reports (BSSAR), Ecological Impact Assessments (EIA), and numerous monitoring reports.
